Romans 2:1-16


Into. In 1:18-32, Paul is talking about who? What pronoun is used?
Beginning in chapter 2 Paul starts talking about who? What pronoun is used here? Who does this "you" include?

2:1 What are these people doing?
How does it differ from those approving in 1:32?
2:3 What kind of judging is being exposed and condemned?
*According to these verses, is all judging wrong? (Compare with James 4)
2:3-4 Paul gives one or two ways these men might think about God. Name them (3-4).
** Personal question: "Do I look at other people's sins with condemnation thinking I am not like them? If so, we need to be careful. Can you think of any examples?


2:5-11
2:5 In verse 5, what does Paul say that is happening to those previously mentioned?
What is the difference between Christian and non-Christian?
2:6 What general principle is stated in this verse?
2:7-11 What two final outcomes are mentioned?
a) In 2:7 what characterized those gaining eternal life?
*Does Paul mention how they get eternal life or just describe those having eternal life? Why?
*Remember what problem Paul was trying to correct (see 2:1). What was it?
*Does this thought confirm or change your answer to the last question?
b) In 2:8, what characterized those receiving wrath and indignation?
c) Does any person have a special relationship with God to escape these blessings or curses?

The Judgment of Gentile (2:12-16)
12-16 Generally
Is it possible to sin and perish without a knowledge of the Law (ie. God's standards)?
Is it possible to sin and perish with a knowledge of the Law (i.e. God's truth)?
What reason does Paul give in 2:13?
14-16 Gentiles
Some say, because the Gentiles do not know what was expected of them, that they cannot be held accountable for their actions. This sounds good, but Paul says they are accountable. Why?
What does this conscience do?
Who will judge the invisible conscience?
Where does this leave the Japanese Buddhist and the Kaywan tribal leader?
