The Bible Teacher's Commentary
Paul might have convinced them that both Gentile and Jew similarly are sinners and need salvation, but the Jews needed convincing that salvation was also for the Gentiles, the non-Jew. There are not two ways to be saved, one for the Jew and one for the Gentile, but one common means; not two churches, but one (Eph 4:4-6).
Paul showed them how a person can, through faith, become Abraham’s child. This faith becomes saving because it does two things: brings forgiveness of past wrongs and presents us as righteous in Christ!
Do you consider yourself Abraham's descendant? Why or why not?
Does it matter what you believe in? We often hear, “It doesn’t matter what you believe, just so you believe.” Explain your answer from these Roman verses.
Many traditional Christians understand faith as an intellectual assent of knowledge. Is this the same as saving faith? Explain.
Give examples of how your faith has grown stronger.
