Focusing on God's Will

Focus

Purpose is a strong motivator which can be used for wrong goals.

As God's people, we want to carry out God's purpose. We must force ourselves to ask, "Are we focused on God's purpose or on our own?" Notice how the Lord Jesus led us to pray. We are to focus on the fulfillment of His will.

"Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven."

(Jesus in Matthew 6:10)

We can get excited about many things. We need to focus on doing God's will!

Focusing on God's Will

It is so easy to start campaigns for what we like and do not like. But we are most likely only pursuing our own desire. We assume that our plan is the best solution. In many cases, the problems we focus on are secondary.

In decaying societies it is popular to pass more laws to solve problems. More laws, however, rarely solve anything. This help is superficial at best. We need to strive for real cures. Did you ever hear of a law that requires you to love or help someone? Probably not. The problem is with our heart, not the law.

We need to face it. The resolutions that we make to conquer problems are often inadequate. We are trying only to prevent bad things from happening rather than actively pursuing a course of action to make good things occur.

Many times we have not really thought through what God wants accomplished in a given situation. Our solution then fails to accomplish what really needs to be done. God is trying to wake us up to the problems behind the problems.

"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." (Philippians 4:8)

What goals are you pursuing? Are you merely trying to solve the embarassing situations around you or have you set your heart to do the Lord's will no matter what?

Let's now look God's outline for the way to carry on His work.      Next
