With all the 'missmessages' about today, we are all lookng for the real facts about any important matter. What is really true. This is all the more important with regards to what we believe about Jesus. Interestingly, Luke faced the same problems back at the time after Jesus. Whether the authors of these 'new' perspectives of Jesus were hostile or just misinformed, the consequences can be serious.
Luke wanted to get the facts straight not because he would be famous or make money but because he cared for people like Theophilus. Not rightly understanding the facts about Jesus can make a great difference on a person's life. Listen to Luke's way of stating his objective for writing the Gospel of Luke.
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word have handed them down to us, 3* it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; 4 so that you might know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.(Luke 1:1-4).
Something else is important. Luke was very excited about what it meant to follow Jesus. He was not just a historian in this sense. Although articulate and detailed about historical facts, Luke himself was a follower of Jesus. He followed the Apostle Paul around and knew that all of us like he should follow Jesus. There is no one like him, Jesus the 'son of man' and the 'son of man'. Jesus was the Savior who saves and calls us to join Him in His good work of expanding the Kingdom of God around the world. Luke wants all of us to carefully consider this opportunity.
