We are often in a quandary about how to plan. Should we wait until all the money comes in and then start planning or plan in faith, without finances in hand? How can we give when we have nothing in hand to give? <br> </p> <p>Through the years, the Lord has usually worked the second way both for our general funds as well as our outreach to the nations. In my recent reading in 2 Corinthians, the Lord encouraged me through verse 8, chapter 9, as I waited upon Him to provide for this trip to Nigeria. <br> </p> <h2>“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;” 2 Corinthians 9:8.<br> </h2> <p><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/_Nigeria/Financial.png" alt="financial status" width="228" height="140" hspace="15" vspace="8" align="left">Tomorrow (Saturday) I leave. This morning the full supply has been promised. Our hearts are so amazed at God’s wonderful ways. We are touched by how God moves brothers and sisters to participate in His ministry. Provision for books, materials and air transport (taxes are more than 25% now!) are a sign of supply for a greater blessing. We will need it.<br> </p> <p>Not only am I speaking to a culture I am unfamiliar with, I will be speaking to young Bible students, city pastors and village pastors. Each group has special needs. Fortunately, they speak English, and I will not need an interpreter. I will need God’s insight to know how to speak their “kind of English”. Once I get closer to my destination, I will have my spiritual antennas up looking for illustrations that best communicate to them. That does not allow much time. I arrive on Sunday and start speaking Monday morning, and three times each day.<br> </p> <p><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/_Nigeria/nigeria.gif" alt="Nigeria" width="300" height="194" hspace="15" align="right">There is an even greater challenge, however. My goal is ridiculously high. Perhaps too high, but I feel compelled to aim for what I believe God wants for these men in ministry. They have asked me to specifically speak on ‘The Godly Man.’ The need for these pastors, church planters, Bible college students, and evangelists to grow in godliness is very important to a God-pleasing ministry.<br> </p> <p>God has burdened my heart to seek for revival for God’s people around the world. These strategic trips become an opportunity to see this happen. What can happen in a few hours? Without the Lord’s grace, these messages will go down in history as just other talks but I believe the Lord wants more. <br> </p> <p>I could sense that yesterday when I was trying to prepare. My mind was not working right. I could not work with the usual liberty that I have when preparing. Perhaps the evil one is working extra hard to keep God’s blessing from these dear ministers. <br> </p> <p>Nigeria has a population of 120 million people – half of USA. They have tremendous potential to be God’s ambassadors not only their own country but also to many other countries. My goal is not just to inform them of what a godly man is but to help facilitate a life commitment from them to be godly men. We might rely our own resources and schemes, but the real work that matters is dependent upon the Holy Spirit. I do this to elicit your prayers. We very much need your prayers! Today, I would like to introduce matters a bit different. I will share with you two joys. But you must remember that we still need your prayers!<br /> </p> <h2>The Joy of Marriage<br /> </h2> <p>Linda and I are fast approaching our 30th anniversary. This coming week the two of us are going to run off to Williamsburg, Virginia. We hardly can believe life has sped by so quickly. <br /> </p> <p>If God had not extended His grace us to give us a great marriage, I certainly would have very little to write about on this website. God has changed so many aspects of our lives that our marriage is really joyous and pleasant. When I hear of marital troubles, I think again and again, “If they only knew God’s truth about marriage, things could be so much better.” People do not realize how great things could be if only they lived God’s way.<br /> </p> <p>We would appreciate your prayers as we celebrate this milestone together. Even if things are good, we always need to be on our guard. A pastor from the Philippines wrote today, “I have just read your website about the topic; Love. And I was so blessed.” <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419671561/sr=1-1/qid=1206963819/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1206963819&sr=1-1&seller=" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/book.jpg" alt="Principles &amp; Practices of Biblical Parenting" width="158" height="240" hspace="20" vspace="15" align="right" /></a>May His love flow in and through our lives so that His glory would be more manifest here on earth!<br /> </p> <h2>The Joy of Ministry<br /> </h2> <p>My friend and I were sharing this morning at breakfast about Henry Blackaby. He asked, “Have you read ‘Experiencing God?’ I explained I sure did. I then proceeded to tell him that is how I got into all of this ‘trouble.’ I was referring to this ministry of Biblical Foundations for Freedom. I said trouble because it jolted our lives into the insecure and unknown. I did go on, however, and say to my friend, that God has indeed multiplied what I gave up, just as He promised. This ministry has been a great blessing. It has been a joy.<br /> </p> <p>I love writing. I love speaking. I love the computer. I love working with those from different cultures. I love basking in the Lord’s presence and thinking about His great plans. God put them all together in a wonderful ministry. </p> <p>I love looking back on how He has over and over again miraculously provided for us. The stories are just too many to tell. On a recent trip my wife and I went through our lives and joyfully shared about this and that special work of God. If I forgot some significant event or details, she would fill in and vice-a-versa. My heart was just praising the Lord.<br /> </p> <p>Although we will face various difficulties, I get to walk on the front lines of God’s kingdom and minister to the great men of faith on the front lines. God has taught me an incredible amount of things. I get to pass many of these things on. I got to finally publish <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419671561/sr=1-1/qid=1206963819/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1206963819&sr=1-1&seller=" target="_blank">Principles &amp; Practices of Biblical Parenting</a> (see picture). Each day we see people being blessed by the ministry. I received my Nigerian visa. I have been asked to speak at several Bible schools and to minister to a good group of pastors on the godly living. <img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/_Nigeria/Nigeria-vis.jpg" alt="visa" width="339" height="87" hspace="15" vspace="10" align="left" />It has been my burden to pray for revival around the world, and I see this as an opportunity for God to refresh those serving the Lord in full-time service. Last year in Malawi I discovered how shallow the teaching of God’s Word was. I suspect that with more training schools that the situation is not as serious in Nigeria. On a positive note I am really looking forward to God giving these men a vision of being godly–so close to God that they have His heart and live like their Heavenly Father.<br /> </p> <p>Building up the character of men in the ministry is of high importance. <img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/_Nigeria/nigeria.gif" alt="visa" width="300" height="194" hspace="15" vspace="10" align="right" />Just think of the pain and consequences that happen when one pastor falls into sin. Without a vision for godly character, men seek for other things to live for. We will need your prayers. (Start praying now for these pastors!). We do not want just messages but life transformation. This is what we seek from the Lord. <br /> </p> <p>I almost went to Nigeria last year. In the end, I did not go at the request of the Bible school coordinator. It was during elections and the political scene can turn ugly quickly. We remember all too clearly how a good country like Kenya could turn into a horrible bloodbath over election issues. <img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Help/TeamsF/Pray/Archives/Pray2008/%20_res08/_Nigeria/students.jpg" alt="NIgerian Bible students" width="252" height="189" hspace="15" vspace="10" border="2" align="left" />Although I will not be there very long, I have a busy schedule. Each morning at 8 am I will be in a different Bible School. Then I will return to the main venue for a series of meetings on The Godly Man.<br /> </p> <p>I will fly into Lagos and stay largely in Benin City close to the Gulf of Guinea (see middle /bottom of map). In the evening I will speak to pastors again but then in the villages. Rev. Godstime will be coordinating these meetings. He is a busy man trying to pull in as many resources as he can for the sake of the Gospel in Nigeria. For example, he will tell you on his <a href="http://spreadthewordministries.org/">website</a> how he is collecting used Bibles and Christian books, fixing them up and distributing them to those who want and need them. The people do not have money for Bibles, but they can repair them. You have to pay for shipping but sounds like a good project for a church or a youth group. <br /> </p> <p>They have asked me for Christian training materials for these pastors/evangelists or pastors/evangelists-to-be. This is the problem. In India, printing prices are low. We can do much more with less. In Africa they lack resources so these materials are expensive even if produced there. For the most part, they do not have computers and printers (and the supplies) so it is not easy to download and print. </p> <p>BFF is contributing contributing 100 copies of <em><a href="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/Topics/Godly_Man/GodlyOverview.html" target="_blank">The Godly Man</a></em>. We sent it out along with a confirmation email before all of this happened. The needs are self-evident.<br /> <br /> "Praise God and how are you doing. I was not able to<br /> reply soon becouse here in Kenya we are passing through<br /> hell. Please pray for us that God may restore peace in<br /> our country. Right now I am living in a camp after being<br /> displaced. If you have people here who can help or<br /> there is a way that you can help please inform me. The<br /> immediate problem here is food and clothings becouse<br /> they were all burnt. yours in his service."<br /> <br /> Then from India just 50-60 miles north of where we were last year came another report.<br /> <br /> "The bad news is that there are near about 40 churches and many believers houses were burnt by the Hindu religious people in Pulbani district in the state of Orissa at Christmas season. Many believers went to jungle (forest) to save their lives. Orissa Government couldn�t allowed any press and media to cover the news. I personally know some of these people like Bishop Makawa from last fall's seminar in Malawi. I just received another email telling how a Christian leader overseas is using BFF materials to advance God's kingdom. Is this a partial answer to our prayers? I believe so. <br> </p> <p>As you know, we send CDs or DVDs (1 CD is far too small!) around the world to needy Christian leaders without cost. Let me share with you parts of two emails. Pray for God, using BFF materials, to better equipped workers around the world so that they in turn, can better serve God's people.<br> </p> <h4>Malawi - Bishop Makawa<br> </h4> <blockquote> <p>I would like to inform you that tomorrow on 26th January 2008 we will be holding a Family Seminar in Blantyre. The materials are very powerful.<br> </p> </blockquote> <h4>Kenya - John<br> </h4> <blockquote> <p>I am very grateful for the BFF DVD that you sent to me. I opened the DVD to view the contents and was impressed to see how much helpful information it has. I am truly grateful that you sent the DVD to me at no cost. But as you have clearly stated that the reason you availed these resource to me is for the building of the Kingdom of God, I trust God that by His grace I will be a good steward. <br> </p> <p>In December 6th- 7th we held a discipleship seminar in our Church in Northern Kenya. We had 33 People in attendance, of whom most of them were leaders in different departments. The theme of the Seminar was Making Disciples (Matt. 28:16-20) and truly we were all challenged to take the task of making disciples seriously.<br> </p> <p>Currently I am developing a discipleship programme (Just at its inception) called Walking With Jesus Discipleship Programme (WWJDP). This is based in the word of God in John 1:35-42. The Holy Spirit helped me in April 2007, during the discipleship seminar in Coastal Kenya,  to see the three level of discipleship making, and I believe God will help me to develop and apply this programme for His glory.<br> Therefore, I consider your gift as a great resource to me due to a wide range of teaching materials- Family (marriage and parenting), discipleship, leadership, etc. <br> </p> </blockquote> <p>We need to pray for these and many other workers around the world that are using BFF materials. I am glad that they are adapting BFF materials their situation. It becomes their own. We need to pray that God would work in the life and ministry of people like these.</p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> The Next Step Follow-up Team</h3> <p>When the numbers were more accurately tallied, the NextStep Team had interviewed 208 NextSteppers. (those moved by the Lord to seek to serve Him full-time) Another 58, who at the last minute dedicated themselves, had signed up as they were leaving the conference. Our challenge now is to pray into being a NextStep follow-up team. Our goal is to raise up a team that can effectively communicate with the NextSteppers and potential mentors (usually pastors, leaders from their churches) and supply the training material necessary. We have written a lot of the material being used to inspire and guide the NextSteppers as well as for those who would mentor them. <br> </p> <p>We praise God for one man, Jack, who accepted the leadership of the Next Step Follow-up Team. Because of his work schedule, he can invest one day every two weeks to this task. It is not a small task. He needs to rally up a whole team. We face foes that will counter us at whatever place they may. Our hope, our trust, is in the Lord our God. We are reminded by Paul's words in Ephesians,</p> <blockquote> <p>Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm (Ephesians 6:10-13, NASB).<br> </p> </blockquote> <p>Last year the BFF website had over 125,000 pages read from it. I am amazed that even the poorest countries have web shops. Those people that I usually visit or send CDs often do not have their own computers and internet service. They pay a little fee for the service at a shop. What a marvelous age to see God's truth brought into the distant villages and mountaintops. Pray with us as we advance with the truth into more areas of the world each day.</p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> The Next Step Adventure has just begun!</h3> <p>The worth of each project that I work on must be carefully weighed. Is it distracting from what God wants or is it advancing what God wants. <br> <br> God started a special work at the Chinese Mission Conference, December 26-30. We (with our trained team) interviewed 199 people. We must have trained 25 counselors on how to use the materials. 298 in total went forward to dedicate their lives to the Lord in some respect.<br> <br> I have taken about 3 weeks of time, perhaps more, including conference time, in this project. Refining papers, traveling, administrating a busy interview office, training, and interviewing have been my life these last weeks. But it was well worth it. Many people have thanked us for following up the many people that God might be or is leading into full-time service. They are thankful for the material to read, the interview time and the T-shirt!<br> <br> Do pray for a good Next Step follow-up team. Ambassadors for Christ is working hard at doing this but to get this many people followed up, as well as contacting their pastors, is a challenging task. The world will be different because this many people stepped forward to bringing the Gospel to the ends of the world. May God grace us with sufficient focus to assist them in gaining the preparation and clear thinking they need at this stage in their lives. We have reached another high for BFF readership despite the October setback. Last year, we were glad for the 340,000 unique readers. This year we have had over 425,000 readers. The number of visitors including repeat readers is far above this. <br> </p> <p>Our joy is that God's Word is strengthening His people all around the world. People are hungry for God's Word. I regularly hear from people or meet people who understand almost nothing about discipleship. They have never thought about how God's people grow. I can identify with them. I remember when I did not know what to say to people with certain problems. Here is an encouraging email note which is illustrates the way God works through this website. Our main job is to provide counseling to the brothers and sisters pursuing Christ's will in this way. We want to lead them on to the 'next step'. Pastor Hugo and I work closely together administering two teams to counsel the 1,800+ people attending the conference at Valley Forge December 26th to the 30th. <br> </p> <p>We need lots of prayer. We have many things to prepare including the printing of many articles. The deadline comes soon. We are still raising up a counseling team of experienced Christian leaders that will attend the conference. We need faith that God will provide all the volunteer counselors that are needed. Pray for our families while we are away and for God to raise up many new, mature workers for His ever expanding kingdom. On certain months certain events take place. The sense of timing comes from plans for trips abroad. In the months leading up to a trip I develop and prepare to speak on new material. It is a massive undertaking. This year it was a marriage seminar for Christian leaders. People from this place and that, tell me that this is so desperately needed. After my return, I usually spend time collating, writing and editing that same material so others can read and hear the different materials. Due to many other factors, plus the added element of audio editing and holding 3 different kinds of seminars, I am quite behind. People gently remind me that they are still waiting for the CDs with the audio mp3s. <br> <br> Usually in the early months of the year I have time to pray for what will happen in the coming year. This is changing. I need to constantly be alert to what God might have. I have agreed to speak in Nigeria in early May on the Godly Man series. I have written nearly 400 pages on this topic but have not yet spoken on it. Having witnessed the void of godly character in various countries including America, this is a key time to reformat the material. God uses these opportunities (through deadlines) to help me shape the material into different formats so that it can be more widely and powerfully used in the lives of His people around the world. <br> <br>So this December I found myself finishing up recent projects while preparing to get new ones underway. Meanwhile some older important projects like the counseling book is still not quite done. Usually, December is when I grab a few moments to do this. Well, December has come! The annual clock for BFF has shifted. I do not understand its pattern. I need faith to wait upon the Lord.</p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> Amswered Prayers<br> </h3> <p>God has enabled us to get a number of miscellaneous things done such as passport renewal application, send in the broken stapler to be fixed (it can be quite mundane), changing accounts, updating the BFF store's buttons, etc.<br> <br> Many of these things had to be done due to the final incorporation of Biblical Foundations for Freedom, Inc. in PA on November 1. So much paperwork. And more to come. Even more monumental is the mailing of the 501(c)(3) application. I attempted to fill in this complicated federal application several times in the past years. I just got too bogged down. But now, it (and the burden) is gone from my desk. Praise the Lord! </p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> Renewal</h3> <p>Around Thanksgiving, I received an email reminding me of BFF's larger focus: bringing renewal through the impact of God's Word upon the lives of people around the world. Sometimes the demands of the immediate process clouds the vision, and we can forget where we are going. That is the way we get lost!</p> <p>So I appreciate an occasional reminder from the Lord. This website was not the only one that disappeared. The experience was interesting in a number of different ways. I am very thankful for you that have prayed for me and this ministry. Let me share three answers to your prayers.<br> </p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> God answers prayer!<br> </h3> <p>The restoration was by your prayers. God even works in the world of high-tech. I could not get the information I needed from Google about what the specific problem was. So I could not fix it. One of several knowledgeable brothers who were trying to see what the problem sent me a link to a blog where it mentioned recent changes in the way Google searches. I noticed that this tech blog started out by mentioning a website that had also been disconnected from Google. Because it was a tech blog, I wrote a few comments about my website's problems. I mentioned that I did not know the reason my website was taken off the Google search engine. Most interestingly, the head of the Google spam team was reading the blog, answered me by telling me the problem and provided a link to my offending page. He told me that this certain page had hidden text. <br> </p> <p>Hidden text are words that are on a web page but not viewable to the average web reader. I then remembered that I put about 25 words of hidden text on that page by making it the same color as the background (black). I did not use it for any malevolent purpose but only to help the search engine find my web page because it otherwise was just a series of graphics. God answered prayers. Google did not answer questions that I had submitted. Everything else I tried failed. So it was special that I happened to 'meet up' with the head Google anti-spam guy on an Australian blog page. <br> </p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> The world is changing<br> </h3> <p>Secondly, I realized how dependent I am on the Lord. In a moment, this ministry could have much less influence. Over those 27 days, we missed 40,500 visits to our web pages! Probably about 70%. Google has that much power. God's power, however, is greater. &quot;The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes&quot; (Proverbs 21:1). I doubt the author here thought about the power of search engines when he wrote this, but the truth is still there. We as God's people are not victims to those who have power and influence over us. God is yet greater.<br> </p> <h3><img src="http://www.foundationsforfreedom.net/New-res/Bk-Navy.jpg" alt="" width="12" height="11" border="0"> Waiting upon God<br> </h3> <p>Last year after returning from my short term mission trip, I got a bad back that required me to lay in bed for about 3 weeks. This year the BFF website 'laid in bed' for 3 weeks. Because of your prayers, God enabled me to quietly pursue answers and yet patiently seek Him. This was a time for special training. I did not want to miss His message. I realize that my days of ministry can be finished at any time. Time is short. It gave me time again to dedicate the ministry to Him. He has started it, empowered and will use it as He sees fit. <br> </p> <h4>Reflections</h4> <p>Through this whole experience, I was able to see that it would be wise to start another website for protection from being totally crippled. Perhaps we will start another site with either the Biblical material or the leadership training material. It will not happen overnight, but I can start moving in that direction. <br> </p> <p>I also realized that censorship of my website might come sooner rather than later because of a growing anti-Christian spirit. There might be pressure upon the bigger search engines to refrain from serving websites that speak up on the truth in one or more areas. I can easily see how some governments might use their authority to shape which sites would show up or not (e.g. Pornographic sites are okay but not those that talk about traditional families!).<br> </p> <p>I need to continue to expand my contacts with Christian leaders. These contacts largely come from those that contact us for free material. I should be more conscious that this might be my future link with these individuals all around the world. <br> </p> <p>We need your prayers as we step ahead into the future. Paul has been blessed by speaking a lot lately. I also wonder at how the Lord brings me through a variety of situations too. Let me list some of them. <br> </p> <p>One morning this week, the Lord put in my mind an idea for a Gospel tract. I began working on writing the tract right after devotions. This will be the first in a series of tracts that people can download, modify and print. I have had a burden for this for a while. A fellow preacher mentioned the need for it when I was India, but God had not given me specific writing ideas. This week He started to give me ideas.<br> </p> <table width="313" border="1" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="0" align="right"> <tr> <td> <div align="center"> <h2>A Special<br> Opportunity<br> </h2> </div> <p>We praise the Lord for bringing in the budgeted amount for the trip to India and Malawi. Unfortunately, the budget for this last trip went over $2,300 because of the larger than expected number of people at the India seminars. We are glad that they came. Instead of 150-200, we had over 300 at each seminar. This is partly because many wives came for the marriage and family seminar as well as the high interest in this topic. </p> <p>The money has been paid out of our general budget.
