Section 3 · Lesson 29 of 32

Supporting Young Believers

The young-believer stage concerns spiritual growth rather than physical age or years in church. Believers learn to use God’s Word for themselves, discern temptation, and deepen trust in God through the struggles of daily life.

Lesson goal: Help spiritually young believers nourish themselves in Scripture and respond faithfully to temptation.

Group teaching can supply useful instruction, while personal mentoring helps address individual struggles. Growth assessment should encourage rather than compare or condemn, and mentors should model the practical faith they want learners to develop.

Key Teaching Points

  • Spiritual maturity is not measured simply by time since conversion.
  • Learn regular, meaningful use of Scripture.
  • Discern temptation and practice faithful responses.
  • Use assessment to encourage growth, supported by trustworthy mentoring.

Scripture to Consider

1 John 2:13–14; Ephesians 6:11–12

For Reflection

  1. Review how you currently study Scripture and choose one skill to strengthen.
  2. Identify a recurring temptation and discuss a faithful response with a trusted mentor.

Reflection prompts help you apply the lesson; they are not graded quiz questions.
