We are unable to overcome worry because we are fighting the wrong enemy. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 says we are fighting the wrong battle with the wrong weapons.
Fighting the wrong battle with the wrong weapons.
Many Christians are an easy knock-out because they do not understand the battle scene. Later, we will examine what actually empowers our worries. But for now, let us look at three specific principles and applications from this passage of 2 Corinthians 10:3-4.
Our Confusion (10:3)
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh
The Principle
Our confusion is heightened by our ignorance of the spiritual aspect of our personal problems. We do not understand that there exists a real spiritual dimension to our lives and problems.
The Application
I have been blinded to the seriousness of the sins in my life. We tend to bring a swimsuit, blanket and tanning lotion to the battlefield!
Our Helplessness (10:4a)
for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh
The Principle
Our helplessness comes from using ________ and ________ that are totally unsuitable in effectively dealing with our spiritual problems.
The Application
I have failed because I have trusted in my own methods and wisdom. Down below are some of these tactics which fail us.
Our Resources (10:4b)
but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses
The Principle
Our resources are God–made weapons that are specially designed to destroy these fortresses.
The Application
I need to look to God to help me overcome my problems in His way.
