Answer #1 Handling lustful desires

Former connections to lusts in your heart and body make it easy for the evil one to tempt you. A path has been formed. It is easy to travel so Satan, as he wishes, bothers you. Nothing keeps him from bringing these lustful thoughts on.

Three things need be done to hold back his common lust-induced advances.

    1. Remove ourselves from open temptation. If the pictures in the magazine you read is being used, even if they are ads, then stop using the magazine (and tell the owner how you are offended by them). Some have had to do away with their computer.

Whatever it takes, stop the source. This is common sense. I used to keep Playboy magazines in my drawer. That was a purely dumb move. I was lured on from those magazines.

    2. Confess your sins. We need to erase those trails. Confession does this. Start by confessing your sin to your wife. Be open, apologetic and confessing of your specific sins. It is best not to hide anything from your spouse as she is your best confidant.

This alone helps a whole lot as the evil one works more powerfully through secrecy (think darkness). I have had strong temptation to think wrongly of sisters even in our congregation. Sometimes I battled for weeks, but once I told my wife, it didn't reoccur. Satan works in darkness. Light (i.e. revealing) matters and makes a great difference.

    3. These two suggestions are powerful, but they are only just breakthrough material. You need to lay a strong foundation by deepening your commitment to your wife.

Our marriage material is very helpful for this. Go through this material together with your wife and perhaps even with another couple. It has study questions. Building a Great Marriage!

There are two other warnings.

(1) Be careful, however. Even if we have not recently bathed ourselves in lustful thoughts, the evil one is trying to ensnare each one of us. When he catches our attention, he instantly forms what we feel is an irrestible attack. When we give him a little room, he edges in, opens the door, and fiercely attacks. We need to be diligent not to open that door.

(2) Also be aware that Satan can invade our thoughts and through them our desires. At times I have had nothing of the sort on my mind and bang, I am attacked with waves of filthy thoughts. We need to learn the rich reward of overcoming them. Check out 'Porno-attack' to further understand how to deal with this.
