1 John 5:21

Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Source of Life's Problems

A lot of people are asking important questions about life. Christians too.

  1. Why am I so bored with life?

  1. Why can’t God be more real in my life?

  1. Why does my life have so many ups and downs?

  1. Why am I so anxious about what is next in my life?

Nature of IdolatryMany of us have mediocre lives. Anxious lives. Bored lives. You might hear about joy, love and peace but you are not joyous at all, very easily upset and can’t get along with people very well. Maybe you are wondering if the promises in the Bible are even true. You are a Christian but can’t seem to find what is promised, at least some of the time. What is wrong?

This is what we will address in this message from God’s Word. We want to target the source of our problems.  Though seemingly oversimplified, one can rightly say that all of life’s problems are caused by one thing. Not two. Not twenty. Just one thing.

One thing keeps us from sharing all the things that God has promised. John sums it up in one short sentence. “Little children, guard yourselves from idols ”1 John 5:21.

But why is idolatry the key problem? We can find out that answer once we understand more about idols and idolatry. Next =>
