The Purpose of Christ’s Suffering
At the center of the Servant Song, Isaiah explains why the Servant suffers. What observers first misread as punishment for His own wrong is revealed as substitution: He bears our griefs, is pierced for our transgressions, and carries the iniquity of wandering sheep. The cross is therefore not meaningless suffering but God’s saving purpose carried through His righteous Servant.
