The Plan of Redemption
Why did Jesus need to die to save us? The answer becomes much clearer when we understand the biblical meaning of redemption. In the ancient world, redemption commonly pictured a price being paid to recover someone from bondage. That image helps the cross come into focus. Humanity is enslaved to sin and unable to free itself, but through Christ God pays the price to reclaim His people. Redemption therefore reveals not only our desperate need, but also God’s righteousness, compassion, wisdom, and faithfulness. The cross is the decisive purchase that restores us to God—and opens the way for His larger purpose in our lives.
