Section 2 · Lesson 14 of 32

Curiosity

Learning about spiritual stages can awaken curiosity about where we stand and how we can grow. The chapter directs that interest toward Christlikeness rather than comparison, superiority, or control over others.

Lesson goal: Turn interest in spiritual growth into teachable hope and a practical next step toward maturity.

Hope returns when believers recognize that God has not abandoned His purpose for them. Growth is cultivated through truth and appropriate care; maturity means increasingly godly decisions rather than a claim of sinless perfection.

Key Teaching Points

  • Use spiritual stages for humble self-examination, not superiority.
  • Confidence in God’s purpose can renew hope for growth.
  • Teachability asks what the next step toward Christlikeness should be.
  • Cultivate the life God gives through truth and suitable care.

Scripture to Consider

1 John 2:12–14; 1 John 2:1–3; Psalm 32

For Reflection

  1. What attitude toward growth has become stagnant in you? Name one truth that renews hope and one next step.
  2. Where do you tend to compare yourself with others? Reframe the question around your own growth in Christlikeness.

Reflection prompts help you apply the lesson; they are not graded quiz questions.

Three-Question Lesson Check
