The Life Core · Section 3

20. The Core of Life

At the center of Christian development is God’s life working through truth, relationship, and responsive faith.

Paul J. Bucknell

Training can easily become crowded with materials, schedules, and expectations. The Life Core brings us back to the center: God gives life, sustains life, and directs its growth toward His purposes.

Truth is essential, but it must remain connected to the living God who speaks it. Relationships are essential, but they must help people respond to Him. Methods are useful, but they must serve spiritual life rather than replace it.

Keeping the core central gives balance. It allows leaders to use many tools while continually asking whether people are actually drawing nearer to God and becoming more like Christ.

Core Teaching

  • God’s life is the center that gives meaning to every training tool.
  • Truth, relationships, and methods should serve living faith.
  • The central test is whether people are growing nearer to God and like Christ.

Reflect and Apply

  1. What has crowded the core out of your training?
  2. How can you reconnect information with living fellowship with God?
  3. What evidence would show that a method is serving spiritual life?
