19. The Purpose of Discipleship

Discipleship aims at whole-life transformation: believers learn Christ, follow Him faithfully, and help others do the same.

Discipleship is larger than completing lessons. It is the intentional process by which God’s truth shapes a person’s faith, character, relationships, decisions, and service.

The purpose determines the method. When the goal is transformed life, teaching must include example, relationship, practice, correction, encouragement, and responsibility—not information alone.

Discipleship also looks toward reproduction. A believer is not fully equipped until he or she can strengthen others and participate in the continuing work of making disciples.
