18. The Life Cycle

The stages of spiritual growth belong to one life cycle in which believers are nurtured, strengthened, matured, and prepared to nurture others.

The child, young, and mature stages are not competing categories. Together they describe a movement from receiving care to sharing responsibility for the life of others.

The cycle also reveals why every stage matters. Neglected beginnings produce unstable development; development without responsibility produces prolonged immaturity; mature service without continued dependence on God becomes dry and mechanical.

Healthy churches expect reproduction. Mature believers help new life begin and then participate in the same patient process that once helped them grow.
