The Damage Requiring Redemption
We cannot understand redemption until we understand the damage sin caused. Genesis 3 explains why humanity’s fellowship with God was broken, why sin spreads so deeply, and why people cannot simply repair themselves. Scripture does not describe fallen humanity as merely weak or uninformed, but as spiritually dead, under hostile powers, and deserving judgment. That makes grace astonishing. God does not wait for spiritually dead people to rescue themselves; He acts in mercy, makes us alive with Christ, and creates us anew for His purposes. The depth of the fall therefore helps us see the height of God’s grace and the necessity of redemption.
