The Price of Redemption
Redemption has a price because sin carries a real sentence. Scripture connects human sin with death, guilt, and judgment—not merely with unpleasant feelings or imperfect behavior. That is why good works, religious effort, or another sacrifice cannot substitute for Christ. Jesus bears our sins in His own body, takes the curse due to us, and becomes the propitiatory sacrifice that satisfies God’s righteous judgment. The gospel therefore rests on a substitution: the guilty cannot pay their debt and live, so the sinless Christ pays it for them. We receive this righteousness not by works, but by faith in God’s promise.
