Desire for a Loving Relationship
God’s redemptive purpose reaches the heart: He wants His people to love Him and delight in relationship with Him. Sin damaged our ability and desire to seek God, and it also corrupted our relationships with one another. Scripture therefore shows God taking the initiative—choosing, pursuing, giving new life, and awakening faith. The new birth restores spiritual life so that we can know God, love His ways, and enjoy His presence. That restored vertical relationship then begins to transform our horizontal relationships. God’s love is not meant to stop with us; as we live near Him, His grace increasingly shapes the way we love other people.
