24. Training with a Purpose
Purposeful training deliberately connects every lesson, relationship, and activity to the growth God intends.
Paul J. Bucknell
Activity can create the appearance of progress. Purposeful training asks harder questions: Why are we teaching this? What response is needed? How will it help this person move toward maturity?
Clear purpose simplifies decisions. Content that does not serve the goal can be reduced, while neglected practices such as application, mentoring, and service receive their proper place.
Purpose also helps learners. When people understand why a truth matters and how it connects to their development, attention and ownership increase.
Core Teaching
- Purpose protects training from becoming mere activity.
- Goals help leaders select content and practices wisely.
- Learners engage more deeply when they understand why training matters.
Reflect and Apply
- What specific result should your next lesson produce?
- Which activity continues mainly because it is traditional?
- How can you explain the purpose of training more clearly to learners?
