26. Bridging the Gap
Training bridges the distance between a believer’s present condition and the maturity God intends.
Paul J. Bucknell
A gap exists whenever people know a truth but do not yet live it, desire growth but lack skill, or possess ability but have not accepted responsibility. Effective discipleship names the gap without shaming the learner.
A bridge is built through manageable steps: clear instruction, example, guided practice, feedback, encouragement, and repeated obedience. Large goals become reachable when the path is made visible.
The trainer walks with the learner across the bridge. Relationship supplies courage and accountability while God’s Spirit supplies life and power.
Core Teaching
- Growth gaps should be identified honestly and graciously.
- Manageable steps turn distant goals into a visible path.
- Relationship, practice, and dependence on God help believers cross the gap.
Reflect and Apply
- Where is the clearest gap between what you know and how you live?
- What manageable next step would begin to bridge it?
- Who can provide example, feedback, and encouragement?
