Walking With Jesus - Abiding in Christ | Description and Purchase

Purpose: Importance of Obedience emphasizes the importance of obedience found in Jesus' words from John 15:6 and its important place for abiding in Christ. This is part of a greater series on Abiding in Jesus.

Importance of Obedience (John 15:6)

Jesus alluded to obedience in this passage. And though we will not spend much time on this, it is worth noting how inconsistent we can be in our belief.

Writing to those that follow Him, Jesus said, “If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:6).

Description and purchase Abiding in JesusJesus is the life producing vine. The branches stand for those people aligning themselves with Jesus. Some branches are convinced that they belong to the vine, but in fact they are not. Is this not what Jesus means when He says the branches that does not abide in Him will be burnt up in the last days?

All genuine believers will not only cognitively say that they are Christians but really believe that living with Christ presents the best life possible. We must confront our doubts or our doubts will conquer us.

Reaching Beyond Mediocrity shows how to sport and fight doubts

What Jesus offers is so much better than anything the world provides. It is a complete deception to think that God’s ways are in any way inferior to what the world offers. As time allows, we will show the absolute beauty of God’s way over the world’s ways.

Some Christians are concerned that our usage of words of success and productivity indicate a compromise with the world. I understand their concerns. Success is more often wrongly than rightly used and thought of. Jesus however does not allow us to ignore or reject these concepts. Does not the word ‘fruitful’ produce the image of lush, abundant, pleasant, fulfilling, good, etc.?

We should reject the world’s goal and understanding of success but not the ideas of life that help us engage in more fruitful lives.
